Cape Town Come Wine With Us event for 2017 in association with Durbanville Hills Wines #ThisCitySparkles-Mario Arendse

I love Come Wine Me (CWWM) events, I’m always excited and I enjoy the expectation associated with the dining experience as well as the featured wines, in this case Durbanville Hills. It’s probably a throwback to my youth and love of surprises.

So let’s start with the venue, Vista Marina. Now I will concede that I’m a little biased, I’m not a massive lover of dining at the V&A Waterfront which is based solely on my aversion of big crowds and being gawked at, by nosey tourists with camera lenses at the ready. All of this, as I attempt to stylishly strip my prawn from its delicate shell while trying to avoid it landing in my lap.

Vista Marina, is most definitely not like traditional V&A restaurants, it’s situated just past the aquarium which is away from the mad scramble often associated with the V&A .It’s elegant and stylishly decorated and a stunning vantage point from which to view the marina. It is the perfect venue if, like me, you prefer a venue that’s intimate. The staff is warm and friendly, not to mention accommodating.


Canapés were served to guests on arrival, which consisted of Harissa spiced potato wrapped prawns with gooseberry relish, accompanied by Durbanville Hills sparkling Sauvignon Blanc. Prawns and bubbly an absolute delicious combination very hard to fault.

Our starter course consisted of Buffalo mozzarella cheese, tomato mousse, confit tomatoes, tomato water gel, basil pesto crumble and balsamic. A well put together and course and similarly well executed. This course was served with the Durbanville Hills Chenin Blanc.

The main course composed of marinated espetada rump, Mediterranean vegetables with the most delicious grilled olive bread and a bordelaise bone marrow jus. This course was served with the star of the show for me, the Durbanville Hills Rhinofields Pinotage.

Goodness was the dessert course something special, mango and orange panna cotta, coconut tuilles and white chocolate star anise sauce accompanied with the Durbanville Hills Merlot Rose.

Another sparkling event put together by the #CWWM team. A venue that I will most certainly return too, and recommend even if it’s just to pop in for that romantic sundowner after a hard day at work. Good food accompanied by even better wine made for another memorable event; I can’t wait for the next  CWWM surprise.
