They say you can’t buy happiness, but at Lou Lou’s you can buy class.
Restaurant Week saw us venturing into Lou Lou’s Restaurant and Bar in Greenpoint. Situated in the Centre of the Cape Quarter it is hidden unlike most eateries on Somerset Road.
Upon arrival we were greeted with the words “Welcome to the home of The Single Malt” suggesting that whiskey and malt werethe drinks of the night. As a result cocktails were limited much to our disappointment especially the ladies. To an extent that we were told on our second order of drinks that there will be no more cocktails until the manager had a change of heart. He must have seen the dismal looks on our faces.

Our order of starters arrived which comprised of pantagonia squid, prawn toast, Lamb & pea croquettes, seared spiced tuna, pork belly and crumbled mushrooms. Other than the variety the items were all tasteful and beautifully served. There was consensus amongst the 7 of us that the starters were awesome.
The main dish comprised of three items only from the menu; cauliflower risotto with almonds and capers, rigatoni pasta al Ragu with a meat based sauce made the traditional way and line fish served with baby potatoes, charred cauliflower and crushed peas with mint. The line fish being sea bass was beautifully seared and tasteful with a tangy sauce. The former two dishes according to the tasters was not as expected, almost as if they were regretful.
To end the meal some us choose desert to sweeten our mouths. From the selection of passion fruit panacotta, ice creams by Unframed and chocolate brownie served with burnt white chocolate ice cream. The choices on the table included the first and last. I loved the panacotta however the brownies proved to be cold and hard as the feel was that brownies are generally soft and gooey.
The whiskey drinkers at the table were definitely smiling and we know that they will return for the whiskey and single malt. The evening proved to be fun as the crowd was entertaining with the music becoming louder as the evening wore on.
An interesting restaurant I must admit with lots to offer.
