Protégé Restaurant – January 2019

Chef Scot Kirton does it yet again, this time he has teamed up with Stephen Raaff and Protégé Restaurant was born.

Loved the casual feel and we absolutely loved the open feel of the restaurant. Having dined at LA COLOMBE ,  LA PETITE COLOMBE and  FOXCROFT and could not wait to see what PROTéGé had to offer.

The hostess, waiters were all very attentive and the food was good.

They offer two options of menu, The Chef’s Menu and the Small Plates Menu.

A selection of seven of the chef’s favourite dishes to share, available for the entire table only –
R495 p.p.

They do recommend ordering 3-4 savoury dishes and a dessert per person.

SOURDOUGH – Goats butter, olives & biltong – R35 p.p.

SALDANAH BAY OYSTERS – Asian Style – R28 each

EDAMAME BEANS – Sriracha, sesame – R70

MUSSELS – Chilli, lemongrass, ginger – R98

KOREAN FRIED CHICKEN – Coriander, buttermilk – R88

TATAKI & TARTARE – Avocado, chipotle, pork crackling – R135

SPICED SQUID – Chorizo, guacamole, cucumber, lime – R125

CURED TROUT – Hazelnut, verbena, horseradish, endive – R115

EAST COAST CRAYFISH – Cape Malay style – R350

ROTI – Braised lamb, herbs, pickles – R115

ONION TART – Goat’s cheese, caper, olive – R98

RISOTTO – Pea, mascarpone, quail eggs – R95

KERALA STYLE FRIED LINE FISH – Labneh, cucumber, pickles – R145

ASIAN BARBEQUE PORK BELLY & PRAWNS – Sugar snaps, kimchi, ginger,
corn, soy – R165

POTATO GNOCCHI – Gorgonzola, seasonal vegetables – R95

BEEF FILLET – Bone marrow, black pepper, carrot – R250

VANILLA PANNA COTTA – Macadamia, strawberry – R98

TERRINE – Chocolate & Peanut Butter – R98

LOCAL CHEESE’S – Preserves – R130

CHOCOLATE TRUFFLES – Protégé selection – R75

We really loved most of the dishes, the only one which really wasn’t a hit was the Korean Fried Chicken perhaps instead of the drumsticks, strips would be better.

Hands down best dish was the Edamame Beans, loved that!!!
